This Month’s Hymn is titled: “I know that my Redeemer Lives”
‘I Know That My Redeemer Lives,’ was written by Samuel Medley. He was born on June 23, 1738. Although he received a good education, he chose to enter the Royal Navy, because he did not like the business to which he was apprenticed. While in the Navy, Medley was severely wounded in a battle in 1759. This forced his retirement from active service. Around this time, Medley was converted. A sermon by Dr. Watts, which was read to him, was instrumental in bringing this about.
The set tune for this hymn in our Methodist Hymn Book is titled ‘Torquay’ and is attributed to W. Youens (1834 – 1911)
